My living room's a periscope, I see both far and wide. I watch as boats sail gaily past and swimmer race the tide. To the ends of worlds, I can see sparkling blue on blue, The stretching sky reaches down to touch the seas it once knew.


I never knew much.Growing up, I never knew where my Daddy went each day, sometimes returning with a big wad of money in his pocket. I never knew why on the other days he came back with nothing at all, but the scent of alcohol on his breath as he kissed me goodnight. I've never known why Momma and Daddy yelled at each other late at night. I never knew why, the next day, Momma's skin would have pretty blue patches, blossoming like spring flowers. I didn't know why my clothes weren't as clean as my classmates' or why they weren't as new. I never found out the reason I had to walk to school each day. I didn't know nothing about where my big sisteI never knew much.
